Save Facebook Reels without the app
Facebook Reels are short vertical clips that live in their own tab and in the main feed. Facebook lets you save them to a collection, but there is no way to get the actual file out of the app, and the collection is gone the moment you lose access to your account. This page fixes that: paste the link, and you get a real MP4 you can move to your gallery, edit, or back up.
It understands every kind of Reel link Facebook hands out, including the short facebook.com/share/r/… and share/v/… links the mobile app creates when you tap Share. Those are followed to the real post automatically, so you do not need to hunt for the “proper” URL. For longer videos from Pages, groups, or Watch, use the Facebook video downloader instead.
How to download Facebook Reels
-
Grab the link from the Reel
Tap the Share arrow under the Reel and pick Copy link. On desktop, open the Reel so it fills the page and copy the address from the top of the browser.
-
Paste and press Download
Drop the link into the box at the top of this page. Give it a second while we read the public post and find the video files.
-
Pick HD or SD
A preview appears with the qualities Facebook offers. HD gives you the sharpest copy; SD is smaller and quicker on mobile data. Both include the audio.
Saving Reels on Android and iPhone
On Android, copy the link from the Facebook app, open Chrome, and paste it here. After you tap the download button the file appears in your Downloads folder and in Gallery or Google Photos within a few seconds.
On iPhone, use Safari. Tap the download button, then the small download arrow at the top of Safari, open the file, and use Share → Save Video to put it in Photos. If Safari plays the video instead of downloading it, long-press the player and choose Download Linked File.
What you get
- HD and SD choices. Whatever Facebook provides for the Reel, both show up as separate buttons.
- Share links resolved. The app’s
share/randshare/vshort links are handled automatically. - No watermark, no cropping. The file is the original upload in its vertical frame.
- Preview first. Check it is the right Reel before you save anything.
- Works logged out. No Facebook password, no account connection, no permissions to grant.
- Straight answers. Private or deleted Reels return a plain message instead of a spinning wheel.
Reels vs. regular Facebook videos
Technically a Facebook Reel is just a short, vertical video with a different address, so the same download engine handles both. The differences that matter to you are practical ones. Reels are capped at 90 seconds, are always 9:16, and are almost always uploaded from a phone, so the HD copy is typically 720p rather than 1080p. Regular videos can be any length and shape, and are more likely to have a full 1080p copy.
Reels are also more likely to use licensed music from Facebook’s library. That audio is included in the download, but it is exactly the kind of content whose re-use is restricted. Saving a Reel for yourself is one thing; re-uploading it with someone else’s song is a copyright claim waiting to happen.
Why some Reels can’t be saved
- Private profiles. A Reel posted by someone who only shares with friends is invisible to logged-out visitors, and therefore to this site.
- Deleted or expired. Creators delete Reels all the time, and a share link can outlive the post by weeks. If the link shows nothing in a private browser window, it is gone.
- Restricted audiences. Reels limited by age or region are filtered by Facebook before the page loads. You get a plain message explaining that instead of a broken file.
- Not actually a Reel link. The Reels tab, a profile, or a hashtag page is not a single post. Open the Reel so it fills the screen, then copy the address.
None of these are things a downloader can work around without logging in, and logging in with your account details is exactly what a safe tool should never ask you to do.
Facebook Reels download questions
Where do I find the link to a Facebook Reel?
In the Facebook app, tap the Share arrow under the Reel and choose Copy link. On a computer, open the Reel and copy the address bar. It will look like facebook.com/reel/1234567890.
Do share links from the app work?
Yes. Links that look like facebook.com/share/r/… or facebook.com/share/v/… are resolved automatically to the real Reel and downloaded normally.
Can I get the Reel in HD?
When Facebook has an HD version you will see an HD button next to SD. Older or lower-quality uploads may only have SD available, which is what Facebook itself plays.
Why does it say the Reel is private?
A Reel posted to a private profile, or with the audience set to Friends, is only visible when you are logged in. This tool works without logging in, so it can only fetch Reels that anyone on the internet can watch.
Will the download have sound?
Yes. Both the HD and SD files contain the audio exactly as it plays on Facebook.
Does this work on Android and iPhone?
Yes. Open this page in Chrome or Safari, paste the link, and the MP4 saves straight to your phone. No app is required.
